The Department of Finance at the Kogod School of Business in American University invites applications for an open-rank, non-tenure track faculty position starting in August 2025 or possibly January 2025 All application materials are to be submitted electronically through Workday.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Ideally, candidates (1) hold a doctorate in Finance or Economics from a nationally accredited institution; (2) have demonstrated teaching excellence in Finance, Managerial Economics, and related courses at all levels, (3) show a strong track record in service and administrative assignments, and (4) are committed to collegiality, good citizenship, and a desire to serve the school.
We seek experienced, versatile candidates who, through their work, teaching, research, and/or service will contribute to the diversity and excellence of Kogod’s academic reputation. Demonstrated excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate level is essential. A research record and active high-quality research agenda are a significant added advantage but not required. Candidates should also share American University’s commitment to diversity.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Candidates are expected to teach relevant courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels in both in-person and on-line formats, and participate in department, school, and university activities. They are expected to play an important role in expanding the department’s and the school's pedagogical portfolio through the development of new courses and programs as well as their administration.
Initial appointments are at the rank of Professorial Lecturer for one year and renewable subject to satisfactory review/performance and budgetary approval. Ranked renewable term faculty are eligible to be considered for promotion subject to the appropriate qualification and promotion requirements. The standard teaching load for term faculty is six courses per year. In compliance with DC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $100,000 to $150,000.
