  • 详情 Financializing Compute: The Design of AI Service Trade Markets
The global AI inference market—reaching approximately $90–100 billion annually and growing at 18% CAGR—operates without organized exchange infrastructure. We document three market failures: resource misallocation (80% of China’s newly built compute capacity sits idle), price opacity (100-fold price dispersion across providers of equivalent quality), and unhedged risk exposure (85% of enterprises miss AI cost forecasts by more than 10%). Following the market design tradition of Roth [2002] and Budish et al. [2015], we propose the AI Service Right (ASR) as a transferable property right on AI compute and the AI Service Unit (ASU) as a quality-adjusted, cross-platform unit of account grounded in hedonic price theory [Rosen, 1974]. The ASU is modality-neutral: billing prices across text, image, video, and speech modalities are unified via eq-token conversion factors (κimg ≈ 2,667 eq-tokens per image; κvid ≈ 2,667 per second of video; κspc ≈ 7 per second of audio), and modality-appropriate benchmark sets (MMLU/HumanEval for language; FID/CLIP Score for image; FVD/CLIPSIM for video; MMBench for multimodal) supply the quality in dex via PCA. We design a hybrid secondary market architecture synthesizing mechanisms from four orthogonal market traditions: foreign exchange markets (cross-platform exchange rates and PPP-analog arbitrage via the ASU); equity markets (Central Limit Order Book, market making, clearing); electricity markets (Compute Locational Marginal Pricing for spatial scarcity signals); and decentralized finance (Automated Market Maker for long-tail liquidity). We establish nine formal propositions: bilateral trading is generically inefficient; Compute Locational Marginal Pricing decomposes nodal prices into system marginal cost, capacity congestion, and bandwidth premia; no-arbitrage equi librium holds with capital constraints (extending Shleifer and Vishny 1997); the ASR market Pareto-improves over bilateral trading; market prices are more in formative under ASR; the hybrid CLOB-AMM architecture weakly dominates either mechanism alone; platform adoption admits multiple equilibria with a coordination trap; financialization may improve or reduce price informativeness depending on speculator-hedger composition; and a hedonic micro-foundation justifies the ASU definition. Calibrated agent-based simulation (500 steps, 30 Monte Carlo runs) provides computational validation: the hybrid architecture reduces price dispersion by 90% relative to bilateral trading, and order-of-magnitude welfare estimates suggest enterprise procurement cost savings of 0.2–20% (net of ASR transaction costs; see Table 7) and potential TFP gains from compute reallocation of up to $29.9 billion annually. We propose a phased implementation roadmap from shadow ledger to full financialization, and we engage critically with the concern that financialization may not reduce intermediation costs [Philippon, 2015].
  • 详情 Family Long Cycle Hypothesis:Intergenerational Liquidity Lock-in,Uncertainty Multiplier,and China’s Fertility Dilemma
Why do fertility subsidies consistently fail in China? Why do consumptionand fertility collapse globally despite intact household book wealth? This paper proposes the Family Long Cycle Hypothesis (FLCH), extending thedecision-making unit of the life cycle hypothesis from an individual to an intergenerational family network, and expanding the budget constraint from a singlelifetime resource constraint to a dual constraint of “total resources + liquiditystructure”. The core mechanism is: intergenerational “blood-transfusion” homepurchase locks in network liquidity without changing household net assets, completing a balance sheet morph of “book wealth unharmed, decision-making paralyzed” at the moment of purchase. This liquidity depletion spikes effective riskaversion, forming a multiplier effect with income uncertainty, causing fertility—the irreversible commitment with the longest duration—to enter the corner solution region first. Within this region, the elasticity of fertility decisions to costsubsidies is strictly zero, but they remain highly sensitive to liquidity repairand uncertainty reduction. Consequently, this paper proves the fundamentalmechanism difference between consumption subsidies (cash rewards, childcarefee waivers) and capital transfers (mortgage principal write-down, unconditionalcash transfers), and proposes three effective policy directions: reducing incomeuncertainty, repairing family liquidity, and raising the reference income of thebottom 90% of the population. The model nests the standard life cycle hypothesis as a special case and is distinguishable from the competitive saving hypothesis on six pairs of opposing predictions. The theory also explains theasymmetric “fast-falling, slow-rising” adjustment of housing prices: the drop isdriven by defensive behavior (business cycle scale), while the recovery is constrained by intergenerational liquidity reconstruction (intergenerational scale of10–20 years).
  • 详情 Financial literacy and technology acceptance drive intention to use robo-advisors
Robo-advisors have been hailed as financial innovations that combine Artificial Intelligence (AI) and low-cost advisory services, with the potential to democratize stock market participation and improve financial inclusion, especially in less developed countries. However, to date their adoption has been slower than expected and existing research that has attempted to understand this puzzle focuses exclusively on existing users of robo-advisors. In this paper, we study the intention to adopt robo-advisors as an antecedent of actual adoption. Using data from a survey of 1,277 Chinese adults, a country with one of the highest saving rates in the world but also very low stock market participation rate, we find that financial literacy and technology acceptance strongly influence the intention to adopt robo-advisors. A one-unit increase in financial literacy (technology acceptance) is associated with a 5.69% (4.74%) increase in the probability of adopting robo-advisors. Importantly, financial confidence partially mediates the literacy-adoption link, highlighting a key psychological mechanism in improving stock market participation rates. Our results shed light on the underlying drivers that facilitate financial inclusion.
  • 详情 Beyond Reserves: State-Led Outward Investment and China’s Strategic Recycling of Newly Accumulated Foreign Assets
This paper examines how China allocates its newly accumulated foreign assets by analyzing the long-run relationship between net national savings, foreign exchange reserves, and outward direct investment (ODI). Using quarterly data from 2005 to 2023, a cointegrated vector autoregression framework shows that ODI—particularly through state-owned enterprises— has emerged as an important channel for recycling national savings abroad. Although short-run reserve fluctuations persist, sustained reserve accumulation has become less central to China’s external asset management. This study contributes to the literature by highlighting the institutional role of state ownership in shaping cross-border investment patterns and by identifying ODI as a strategic mechanism for channeling national savings internationally. The findings shed new light on China’s evolving approach to external asset allocation and its broader economic and geopolitical implications.
  • 详情 Unveiling the role of rational inattention: Tax incentives and participation in commercial pension insurance
This paper examines why tax incentives fail to stimulate participation in China's third-pillar commercial pension insurance, emphasizing the role of rational inattention. Using household survey data from China Family Panel Studies (CFPS) spanning 2014-2022 and a difference-in-differences-in-differences (DDD) design, we find that pilot policy generated a statistically insignificant average effect on participation, with rational inattention - proxied by financial literacy - explaining much of its ineffectiveness. We develop a dynamic consumption-portfolio model featuring costly information acquisition, and then resolve limitations of standard models through a dynamic framework with distinct savings channels and policy-focused rational inattention. The models show that rational inattention distorts perceptions of tax benefits and wage growth, raising participation costs, while multiple savings channels dilute incentives. Only households with higher financial literacy substantially respond to the policy. Our results reveal how cognitive frictions undermine pension reform and offer implications for designing behaviorally-informed retirement schemes.
  • 详情 Interpretation of Key Factors Influencing the Construction Cost of Prefabricated Buildings: An Empirical Study in China Using Ism - Sem Method
Prefabricated buildings(PBs) have significant advantages in improving construction efficiency, saving resources, and reducing environmental pollution. They have become an important direction for transforming and upgrading the global construction industry. However, the high construction costs have severely restricted their large-scale adoption. To systematically explore the key influencing factors and the mechanism of the construction cost of PBs, this study uses the method of combining interpretative structural model (ISM) and structural equation model (SEM), identifies the main influencing factors by synthesizing literature and data analysis, analyze hierarchical relationships between these factors via ISM, and quantifies the influence intensity and mechanism of the construction cost by SEM method. The results show that the driving factors of the construction cost of PBs can be divided into several levels. The core factors, such as the assembly rate, the production scale of prefabricated components, the integration of design management, the technical level of designers, and the specialization of prefabricated components in the factory, play a crucial role in cost optimization. In conclusion, this study deeply reveals the impact mechanism of the construction cost of PBs, offers practical guidance for reducing construction costs and optimizing resource allocation, and provides a scientific basis for government policy-making and enterprise strategic decision-making.
  • 详情 Social Distrust and Household Savings: Evidence from China
This paper examines the impact of social distrust on household saving in China using a microsample from the China Family Panel Studies (CFPS). We find that social distrust leads to an increase in savings within households, in which households not living alone, with higher levels of education and urban households are more affected. We also find that social distrust affects household savings through raising risk expectations, reducing credit availability and amplifying risk spillovers from real estate markets.
  • 详情 Heterogeneous Shock Experiences, Precautionary Saving and Scarred Consumption
This paper represents the first attempt to show how heterogeneous shock experiences help explain the enduring scars on household future behaviors. Using a large-scale household survey with 15,652 observations combined with geospatial transportation big data, we identify a novel belief-updating mechanism through which crises may exert prolonged impacts on household asset allocation and consumption patterns. An increase in the duration of previous lockdown experience is associated with a 10.52% escalation in enhanced anxiety for future precautionary saving motivations. This experience-based learning perspective supports the resolution of long-lasting overreactions to negative shocks via belief revisions and extends to households’ consumption behaviors. The lingering effects continue to skew households' beliefs even when conditions improve. Additionally, households with different individual-based shock experiences may exhibit varying perceptions of external shocks, resulting in disparate belief revision processes.
  • 详情 Does the Disclosure of CFPB Complaint Narrative Reduce Racial Disparities in Financial Services
We investigate the effect of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s 2015 disclosure of complaint narratives on reducing racial disparities in financial services. Employing a triple-differences approach that compares the performance of affected and unaffected financial institutions across communities with varying racial compositions, we find that post-disclosure, minority communities experience welfare enhancements. These include higher savings interest rates (amounting to over $50 million annually), reduced maintenance fees, and lower interest rates on auto loans and credit cards. The research emphasizes the broad impact of service quality disclosure in mitigating racial disparities in savings and lending markets.
  • 详情 How Do Developers Influence the Transaction Costs of China's Prefabricated Housing Development Process? -Investigation Through Bayesian Belief Network Approach
The implementation of prefabricated housing (PH) has become prevalent in China recently because of its advantages in improving production efficiency and saving energy. However, the benefits of adopting PH cannot always be accrued by the stakeholders because of the arising transaction costs (TCs) in the projects’ development process. This study investigates the strategies for developers to make rational choices for minimizing the TCs of the PH project considering their own attributes and external constraints. A Bayesian Belief Network model was applied as the analytical method, based on the surveys in China. The single sensitive analysis indicated that developers influence the TCs of PH through the three most impactful factors: Prefabrication rate, PH experience, and Contract payment method. Furthermore, combined strategies were recommended for developers in various situations based on the multiple sensitivity analysis. Developers facing high prefabrication rate challenges are suggested to reduce the risks by procuring high-qualified general contractors and adopting unit-price contracts type. For developers with limited PH experience, adopting the Engineering-Procurement-Construction procurement method is the most efficient in reducing their TCs in the context of China’s PH market. This study contributes to the current body of knowledge concerning the effect of traders’ attributes and choices on TCs, expanding the application of TCs theory and fulfilling the study on the determinants of TCs in construction management.
